“Blitz-interview with a volunteer” – Dasha Lipska-Ishuk

1. How long have you been a volunteer?
I’ve been doing volunteer work for about 7 years. In the center of Sirota.lv I am a volunteer for the second year.
2. How did you get acquainted with the Support Center Sirota.lv?
I was invited to help in the center of Sirota.lv by my friend, who has been a volunteer for a long time.
3.What is your favorite project in the center?
It’s hard to choose, every is good in its own way. The best project is one from which you can get pleasure.
4. Tell us why.
In each project there is something special – magical and unique. Each project brings new discoveries, feelings and emotions, every project is done from the heart. Choose a favorite one is the same as choosing between mom and dad – you love them the same way.
5. What can you say about the children you are working with?
They are complicated, immeasurably deep and very devoted.
6. What is the coolest thing about volunteer work?
People with whom you are working and the special atmosphere which is created by themselves.
7. Have you faced some problems? Why?
Difficulties could be always and with everyone. Just don’t think about it too much.
8. What do you like in the Support Center Sirota.lv?
Center Sirota.lv appreciates people who work and help. The Center knows that everything should be thanked for, and everything happens for a reason. The center will always find support for those who need it, regardless of age, religious beliefs and political views. The Center takes care that the people who are working there understand the difference between volunteering and personal life, that they can express themselves freely if they feel that something troubles them. Center Sirota.lv knows that in life there are things more important than gifts and recognition of the public. The main things are love, attention, mutual assistance. It is a basis for our work with children. When a person stops helping his neighbor, he stops being human.
9. Please, continue the sentence “A volunteer is…”
A volunteer is a person full of good, and who wants to share his good. He is a “new” Columb who opens the window in the better world.
10. Can you give potential volunteer some advice?
It’s for you! Be bolder!
